Adams, John Quincy – (Born July 11, 1767; Died natural causes February 23, 1848,
Massachusetts) Sixth President of the United States of America, (March 4 1825 – March 4 1829)
son of John Adams, first disputed election to be decided in the House of Representatives,
often referred to as the Corrupt Bargain for the appearance of a deal made with Henry Clay
who was appointed Secretary of State, Adams was a governmental activist, who sought to expand the
reach and power of the national government for national improvements, and education as well as the
arts and sciences, was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives after his Presidency, where
he served for 18 years, advocating the abolition of slavery and becoming known as “old man eloquent.”
