Buchanan, James – (Born April 23, 1791; Died natural causes June 1 1868, Pennsylvania) Fifteenth President of the United States of America, (March 4, 1857 – March 4, 1861) a month before the end of his term in office he was presented with a resolution of secession from seven states and took no action, a conflicted slave owner and a southern sympathizer who nonetheless occasionally supported abolition when it was politically expedient, our only bachelor President. Appointment of Registrar of Land Office for the District of Lands Subject to Sale at Tallahassee Florida, May 7, 1858, partially printed, approximately (20 1/2” X 16”). Countersigned by Jacob Thompson as Secretary of Interior. Thompson later resigned to join and support the Confederacy as Governor of Mississippi and a Confederate Commissioner to Canada. (Art.
